R. J. Hudlow – Marion County

This fiber art contribution to the Felting the Future project was created by R. J. Hudlow of Nerinx in Marion County, who also shared the following reflection:

What is your hope for the future?

My hope – That people will learn that peace and love for all (nature too) is much more important than all the money in the world.

Describe a time when you had to work hard to find hope and resilience.

I needed to ask the most of myself when after teaching for years in Catholic prive high school I began to teach in public grade schools. I saw ineffective teaching & administration. I had to care for students & classes for myself.

What advice would you offer to a younger version of yourself?

The biggest advice I would give my younger self is that older folks still have their younger self within them.

What wisdom do you hope your future self carries with her/them?

I think my personal wisdom gift to others is to see and to value even the smallest creatures that you can see and to watch them and to learn from them.

Felting the Future is a participatory art project that is bringing together 500 Kentuckians to imagine and shape a hopeful vision of what lies ahead. Using the ancient technique of felting, participants of all ages and backgrounds are creating handmade pieces that will be joined into one large, colorful installation, which will tour the Commonwealth beginning in summer 2026. This project is coordinated by artist Kris Grenier (@krisgrenierart) and supported by the Kentucky Foundation for Women (@kyfound4women).
