This fiber art contribution to the Felting the Future project was created by S.K. of Cynthiana in Harrison County, who also shared the following reflection:
What is your hope for the future?
My hopes for the future are to become an elementary school teacher, and have a family of my own. I hope to keep in touch with my friends while making new ones. And I mostly hope to continue growing closer to God.
Describe a time when you had to work hard to find hope and resilience.
A time when I had to work hard and find resilience was when I took my first AP/college class. It was much harder than any class I’d had before and it took lots of adapting.
What advice would you offer to a younger version of yourself?
Advice I would give to my younger self is to do what I love and not just go along with and do everything my friends/people around me did.
What wisdom do you hope your future self carries with her/them?
The wisdom I hope to carry into my future is to always make time for fun. There is a time to be super serious, but there is always a time to enjoy life.
Felting the Future is a participatory art project that is bringing together 500 Kentuckians to imagine and shape a hopeful vision of what lies ahead. Using the ancient technique of felting, participants of all ages and backgrounds are creating handmade pieces that will be joined into one large, colorful installation, which will tour the Commonwealth beginning in summer 2026. This project is coordinated by artist Kris Grenier (@krisgrenierart) and supported by the Kentucky Foundation for Women (@kyfound4women).
