This fiber art contribution to the Felting the Future project was created by Debbie Cosper of Ashland in Boyd County, who also shared the following reflection:
What is your hope for the future?
My hope for the future is that it is bright. I hope people discover how wonderful people are. I hope that the human race becomes kind.
Describe a time when you had to work hard to find hope and resilience.
A time that I had to find hope and resilience was when I had to break away from my alcoholic parents for the sake of my young nephew. Say we couldn’t see them until they were sober was devasting but so necessary
What advice would you offer to a younger version of yourself?
I’d tell my younger self to get healthy now. Exercise and eat right is easier when young.
Then I would tell her it only gets better
What wisdom do you hope your future self carries with her/them?
I hope to carry the wisdom of the value of keep learning: new ideas, new people, and techniques.
Felting the Future is a participatory art project that is bringing together 500 Kentuckians to imagine and shape a hopeful vision of what lies ahead. Using the ancient technique of felting, participants of all ages and backgrounds are creating handmade pieces that will be joined into one large, colorful installation, which will tour the Commonwealth beginning in summer 2026. This project is coordinated by artist Kris Grenier (@krisgrenierart) and supported by the Kentucky Foundation for Women (@kyfound4women).
