This fiber art contribution to the Felting the Future project was created by GH of Russell in Greenup County, who also shared the following reflection:
What is your hope for the future?
My hope for the future is to finish school by then I would have my [associate’s] degree and maybe my master degree but right not I’m a volunteer at my local primary school and wanting to be a preschool teacher and letting others let their light shine as well as mine does.
Describe a time when you had to work hard to find hope and resilience.
When a time I had to find hope and [resilience] is when I work a 12hr shift with working all day until 6pm and that makes me who I am today being online and working at a school.
What advice would you offer to a younger version of yourself?
The advice that I would give to my younger self would be to never give up in school and always trying hard and making this school year as great as possible as the kids I have now will move on to kindergarden and be on there own for the first time.
Felting the Future is a participatory art project that is bringing together 500 Kentuckians to imagine and shape a hopeful vision of what lies ahead. Using the ancient technique of felting, participants of all ages and backgrounds are creating handmade pieces that will be joined into one large, colorful installation, which will tour the Commonwealth beginning in summer 2026. This project is coordinated by artist Kris Grenier (@krisgrenierart) and supported by the Kentucky Foundation for Women (@kyfound4women).
