This fiber art contribution to the Felting the Future project was created by Sarah Harris of Owensboro in Daviess County, who also shared the following reflection:
What is your hope for the future?
My hope is that we can not only sit with the fact that there are an infinite amount of ways to be human, but approach it with curiosity & acceptance. That we can expand our capacity individually and collectively to make room for experience that differ from our own.
What advice would you offer to a younger version of yourself?
Your plan will not save you.
You don’t have to constantly look at the external to find what you need. You have to look within & build trust with yourself before you can create a path forward that works for you & feels authentic.
What wisdom do you hope your future self carries with her/them?
I hope future me is wise enough to know that there is never one correct path. I want to hold wisdom that allows me to let go of what I thought life “should” be or look like.
Felting the Future is a participatory art project that is bringing together 500 Kentuckians to imagine and shape a hopeful vision of what lies ahead. Using the ancient technique of felting, participants of all ages and backgrounds are creating handmade pieces that will be joined into one large, colorful installation, which will tour the Commonwealth beginning in summer 2026. This project is coordinated by artist Kris Grenier (@krisgrenierart) and supported by the Kentucky Foundation for Women (@kyfound4women).
