This fiber art contribution to the Felting the Future project was created by an anonymous participant in Montgomery County, who also shared the following reflection:
What is your hope for the future?
Less conflict & peace. More understanding behavior towards people with different opinions.
Describe a time when you had to work hard to find hope and resilience.
Our niece was in a bad situation with her mother. We kept trying to get the state involved to get help for her. After months, they finally intervened and likely saved her life. She’s been living with us for a year and a half now and is doing so well. It’s been tough jumping through all the hoops the state has and dealing with personal attacks from her mother, but there is light at the end of the tunnel and we’re so glad we didn’t give up getting her help.
What advice would you offer to a younger version of yourself?
You’re stronger than you think and determined enough to get through all life’s obsticles.
What wisdom do you hope your future self carries with her/them?
Confidence and resilience will get you through anything
Felting the Future is a participatory art project that is bringing together 500 Kentuckians to imagine and shape a hopeful vision of what lies ahead. Using the ancient technique of felting, participants of all ages and backgrounds are creating handmade pieces that will be joined into one large, colorful installation, which will tour the Commonwealth beginning in summer 2026. This project is coordinated by artist Kris Grenier (@krisgrenierart) and supported by the Kentucky Foundation for Women (@kyfound4women).
