This fiber art contribution to the Felting the Future project was created by Mariah Dene of Mt. Sterling in Montgomery County, who also shared the following reflection:
What is your hope for the future?
I one day hope to live in a world where people prioritize kindness and the betterment of humankind over their own personal gain.
What advice would you offer to a younger version of yourself?
Don’t be afraid to lean on the people you trust. They are there to help you.
Keep dreaming bigger than yourself. It will guide you.
What wisdom do you hope your future self carries with her/them?
Somehow, I hope my future self can remain optimistic about this world. As I grow, I see more and more darkness around me. I hope to remain an unwavering optimist, never losing sight of what this world could be.
Felting the Future is a participatory art project that is bringing together 500 Kentuckians to imagine and shape a hopeful vision of what lies ahead. Using the ancient technique of felting, participants of all ages and backgrounds are creating handmade pieces that will be joined into one large, colorful installation, which will tour the Commonwealth beginning this fall. This project is coordinated by artist Kris Grenier (@krisgrenierart) and supported by the Kentucky Foundation for Women (@kyfound4women).
