This fiber art contribution to the Felting the Future project was created by Danielle Perron of Lexington in Fayette County, who also shared the following reflection:
What is your hope for the future?
I would love to see more care and kindness amongst people. I hope to hear more people genuinely asking daily “how can I help, or make someone’s day better” and for people’s gut action to be to show up for others!
What advice would you offer to a younger version of yourself?
Be loud, be bold, make your voice heard! It took me a while to learn that even if you have great support, you know what truly matters to you and you should let the world know about it!
What wisdom do you hope your future self carries with her/them?
That fear is a feeling. It’s not an excuse. It’s just something to recognize and notice. If there is real danger you will know, otherwise be afraid and do it anyway.
Felting the Future is a participatory art project that is bringing together 500 Kentuckians to imagine and shape a hopeful vision of what lies ahead. Using the ancient technique of felting, participants of all ages and backgrounds are creating handmade pieces that will be joined into one large, colorful installation, which will tour the Commonwealth beginning in 2027. This project is coordinated by artist Kris Grenier (@krisgrenierart) and supported by the Kentucky Foundation for Women (@kyfound4women).
