This fiber art contribution to the Felting the Future project was created by Nila Harris of Butler in Pendleton County, who also shared the following reflection:
What is your hope for the future?
I hope that many more people will come to know Jesus Christ and spread His love across the world.
Describe a time when you had to work hard to find hope and resilience.
When my husband had a nervous breakdown due to things beyond his control. He was trying to run a small business, and it was going under due to the recession in 2008. He lost all hope, and I was close behind, yet I had to be the “cheerleader” and encourage, mother and father. It was a tough two years. He is better now!
What advice would you offer to a younger version of yourself?
Stay away from alcohol, especially during those teenage years.
What wisdom do you hope your future self carries with her/them?
Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the light. No one comes to the Father except through Him.
Stay positive and encouraging.
Felting the Future is a participatory art project that is bringing together 500 Kentuckians to imagine and shape a hopeful vision of what lies ahead. Using the ancient technique of felting, participants of all ages and backgrounds are creating handmade pieces that will be joined into one large, colorful installation, which will tour the Commonwealth beginning in 2027. This project is coordinated by artist Kris Grenier (@krisgrenierart) and supported by the Kentucky Foundation for Women (@kyfound4women).
