Katelyn Chanslor – Harrison County

This fiber art contribution to the Felting the Future project was created by Katelyn Chanslor of Cynthiana in Harrison County, who also shared the following reflection:

What is your hope for the future?

Not for myself.

For all the things im doing to lead to a prosperous future with opportunity for my children. That they can live without fear and pursue their dreams with confidence.

Describe a time when you had to work hard to find hope and resilience.

I had twins at age 21.

Many of my childraising years were spent hopeless. That I was never going to have a career or have financial stability. Finding community volunteering in the theatre and posting art on social media, meeting women who had made it out the other side brought me hope.

What advice would you offer to a younger version of yourself?

Stop overthinking everything. People much less talented and less intelligent succeed all the time because they are not afraid.

What wisdom do you hope your future self carries with her/them?

To move forward and do Better

Felting the Future is a participatory art project that is bringing together 500 Kentuckians to imagine and shape a hopeful vision of what lies ahead. Using the ancient technique of felting, participants of all ages and backgrounds are creating handmade pieces that will be joined into one large, colorful installation, which will tour the Commonwealth beginning in summer 2026. This project is coordinated by artist Kris Grenier (@krisgrenierart) and supported by the Kentucky Foundation for Women (@kyfound4women).
