JDP – Montgomery County

This fiber art contribution to the Felting the Future project was created by JDP of Mt. Sterling in Montgomery County, who also shared the following reflection:

What is your hope for the future?

To keep surviving, no matter what.

Describe a time when you had to work hard to find hope and resilience.

A time I had to work hard to find hope and resilience has been within my job. I work every day with children who have been abused and seeing them sometimes not get the justice they deserve can be very disheartening. During those times I have to keep going and focus on all the other cases that still need help. I have to keep hope for them and resilience.

What advice would you offer to a younger version of yourself?

Don’t give up. You’re going to make it. Everything you come across is meant to shape you into the person you’re meant to be and the journey you’re destined to go on.

What wisdom do you hope your future self carries with her/them?

To not let anything stop me from doing what’s right.

Felting the Future is a participatory art project that is bringing together 500 Kentuckians to imagine and shape a hopeful vision of what lies ahead. Using the ancient technique of felting, participants of all ages and backgrounds are creating handmade pieces that will be joined into one large, colorful installation, which will tour the Commonwealth beginning in summer 2026. This project is coordinated by artist Kris Grenier (@krisgrenierart) and supported by the Kentucky Foundation for Women (@kyfound4women).
