Katie Pierce – Henderson County

This fiber art contribution to the Felting the Future project was created by Katie Pierce of Henderson in Henderson County, who also shared the following reflection:

What is your hope for the future?

I hope to live in a future where theres more humanity in humans. I want to see empathy and kindness in one another, and concern not only for our loved ones, but for strangers, for animals, for the environment, for our home. I hope to see a level of awareness and I hope to see people living in peace.

I hope to live in a more caring and kinder future.

Describe a time when you had to work hard to find hope and resilience.

Through recent years, I find that I’ve dealt with a lot of loss and I never really had the time to process that grief.

Nowadays I’m finally letting myself feel and process that grief, finally letting go.

What advice would you offer to a younger version of yourself?

You’ll make it past 18, you’ll make it to your 20s.

Live out of spite.

What wisdom do you hope your future self carries with her/them?

I hope you keep living out of spite

I hope you outlive all the bad people in your life

You’re resilient and you always have been. Never forget that <3

Felting the Future is a participatory art project that is bringing together 500 Kentuckians to imagine and shape a hopeful vision of what lies ahead. Using the ancient technique of felting, participants of all ages and backgrounds are creating handmade pieces that will be joined into one large, colorful installation, which will tour the Commonwealth beginning in summer 2026. This project is coordinated by artist Kris Grenier (@krisgrenierart) and supported by the Kentucky Foundation for Women (@kyfound4women).
